Scota - The Egyptian Connection

The Story of Princess Scota

By Heather Elizabeth Adams

In 1955, archaeologist Dr. Sean O’Riordan of Trinity College, Dublin, made an interesting discovery during an excavation of the Mound of Hostages at Tara, site of ancient kingship of Ireland. Bronze Age skeletal remains were found of what has been argued to be a young prince, still wearing a rare necklace of faience beads, made from a paste of minerals and plant extracts that had been fired.

The skeleton was carbon dated to around 1350 BC. In 1956, J. F. Stone and L. C. Thomas reported that the faience beads were Egyptian: “In fact, when they were compared with Egyptian faience beads, they were found to be not only of identical manufacture but also of matching design.

The famous boy-king Tutankhamun was entombed around the same time as the Tara skeleton and the priceless golden collar around his mummy’s neck was inlayed with matching conical, blue-green faience beads”. An almost identical necklace was found in a Bronze Age burial mound at north Molton, Devon.

Lorraine Evans in her compelling book, Kingdom of the Ark, reveals archaeological connections between Egypt and Ireland. Evans argues that the connections between the two distant lands were plausible and there is archaeological evidence to support the theory. In 1937 in North Ferriby, Yorkshire, the remains of an ancient boat were discovered. While thought to be a Viking longship at first, continued excavation produced additional ships, wrecked in a storm. Further investigation showed that the boats were much older than Viking ships and were of a type found in the Mediterranean. It was concluded that these boats originated from 2000 years before the Viking age and were radiocarbon dated to around 1400 to 1350 BC. Evans then makes connections to argue that these boats could originate from Egypt, as the timeframe fits the dating of the faience beads.

While investigating the origins of the people of Scotland in the Bower manuscript, the Scotichronicon, she discovers the story of Scota, the Egyptian princess and daughter of a pharaoh who fled from Egypt with her husband Gaythelos with a large following of people who arrive in a fleet of ships. They settled in Scotland for a while amongst the natives, until they were forced to leave and landed in Ireland, where they formed the Scotti, and their kings became the high kings of Ireland. In later centuries, they returned to Scotland, defeating the Picts, and giving Scotland its name.

Evans then posits the questions: Was the Tara necklace a gift from the Egyptians to a local chieftain after their arrival? Or was the Tara prince actually Egyptian himself? According to Bower’s manuscript, Scota’s descendants were the high kings of Ireland. In her quest to discover the true identity of ‘Scota,’ as it was not an Egyptian name, she finds within Bower’s manuscript that Scota’s father is actually named as being Achencres, a Greek version of an Egyptian name. In the work of Manetho, an Egyptian priest, Evans discovers the translation of the name—the pharaoh Achencres was none other than Akhenaten, who reigned in the correct time frame of 1350 BC. Evans believes that Scota was Meritaten, eldest daughter of Akhenaten and Nefertiti. The third eldest daughter, Ankhesenpaaten, married her half-brother, King Tutankhamun, son of Akhenaten and his secondary wife, Kiya.

The controversial religious shift to the god Aten caused conflict with the Amun priesthood, who reasserted their authority after Akhenaten’s reign ended and he disappeared from history. This conflict and the rumored deaths by plague would have been sufficient motivation for the pharaoh’s eldest daughter to accept a foreign prince in marriage, rather than being Tut’s wife as would have been normal protocol, and to flee from the conflicted country.

What happens to Scota and her people? For this, we must return again to the myths of the people inhabiting Ireland at the time, the Tuatha de Danaan, the magical children of the Goddess Danu: “It was they who originally established the site of Tara, in the Boyne river valley, as the ritual inauguration and burial place of the ancient kings of Ireland. They were generally regarded as the gods and goddesses of the Celtic tribes, but it is believed that their true origins date far back into prehistory”. Could the de Danaan even perhaps have been the descendants of the lost land of Atlantis, migrants to Ireland after its final destruction, estimated by Edgar Cayce to have been around 10,000 BC?

Cayce states in various psychic readings that the Atlanteans migrated to parts of the Yucatan and later into North America to merge with the existing native Mound Builders in the Ohio region. As Tara is also a sacred mound site, could there be a connection? It is an interesting speculation, and if the ‘Sons of Mil’ were indeed Egyptians, there is another connection to mound-building cultures, as sacred burial mounds were the origins for the pyramid structures that followed in the evolution of pyramid building in Egypt. Could there have been a common tie to these two cultures, united once more upon the Hill of Tara? Perhaps that, too, could explain part of the ancient symbolic meaning of the site, a place of sacred union of two cultures with a thread of common identity.

In the Annals of the Four Masters, dating to 1632-36, Scota’s husband is named Eremon, and it is Eremon and Eber who divide the land of Ireland between them, with Eremon in the north and Eber in the south. What is interesting to me about this version is the similarity between the division of Ireland and the division of Egypt itself. Egypt was divided into Upper and Lower Egypt, unified by a central connecting city, Memphis. If we consider the existing myths of Ireland’s legends, it, too, was divided to have a central site of unity, known as Mide, the omphalos of Ireland. Within Mide is where the Hill of Tara is situated, as a site of the High Kingship, representing the unity of the land and all of its people.

Sadly, it is in the battle for Ireland at Slieve Mish, as recorded in the Lebor Gabala, that Scota meets a tragic end and is killed. After her death in this battle, the war continued on at Tailtinn against the three kings of the Tuatha de Danaan, the husbands of the Goddesses Banba, Fodla, and Eriu: MacCuill, MacCeacht, and MacGreine. The sons of Mil, after prolonged battle, conquered the de Danaans and took the seat of Tara. According to the Bower manuscript, Scota was buried “between Sliab Mis and the sea,” and her grave, Fert Scota, is found in a glen located in Glenscota.

The exact location of Scota’s resting place remains a mystery, much like the particulars of her past, which are slowing being unveiled. As with many myths, a real person lent her persona and identity to the landscape of the land she became a part of, giving Scotland her name, giving the Celts an additional layer to their unique heritage that is unsung and still somewhat new in theory, as the truths of history do their slow unraveling of their yarns.

I know from my own intuitive experiences that more of the story of Scota and the Egyptian connection to the Celts will indeed by revealed. On the Summer Solstice of 2006, I had this dream about Tara and its importance as a sacred site to the healing of our world, of finding unity amongst our current state of chaos:
While excavating Tara, we are looking for evidence of kingship, an Egyptian connection. I am shown that there are two connections—a tree, as in the Tree of Life. Something else spirals with the tree to connect and to make a third way, a way between the worlds. I am told that as they dig that they will find things that may be in England, but that Ireland and the Hill of Tara will be riddled with pearls. Pearls of the sea show kingship, sovereignty, the true center of kingship, a center that rules over all. I am shown two snake-like DNA strands, winding together like vines, and these two twisted strands are connected to Tara. Pearls are the birthstone of the month of June, and the rose is also the flower of that month. The Rose of Tralee comes to mind and its connections to their beauty queen pageant—queenship, the rose.

Tara as the site of Queenship, the beautiful center of the rose. I am told more about the beautiful pearls all over Tara, the pearls of the crown, of finding this lost race of kingship once more, which is NOT located in England, I am told. The Goddess stands on Tara, in the center, looking out over Ireland, Scotland, and England, showing me a trinity. She stands on Tara and under it, showing the way between of the above and below, the way between the trinity, with Her in the center, and that She, plus the Land, plus the People, equal the Sacred Three. She tells me that She is the Mother of the boy in my visions, the sacred son who will also be my son one day, and where to find him to bring him home.

The Irish were a race of persecution, persecuted by the English, so I am told that history’s conquerors cannot be our future history’s leaders. Because of the past, no people will follow them. But this is not true of the Irish, for the true leaders of the People unite the three, She says, the People, Her, the Land. She leaves me with the suggestion that the Irish are a mix of three races, not just one of European descent, and this is also important to lead our way into our future to understand our Oneness and our equality, our harmony with the Land, with Her.

After the dream ended, I thought about the meaning of the Celts, of the ideal of striving for unity, of Brehon laws, of equality. I realized that my own name is significant in this symbolism—my last name was originally Adam before my great-grandfather changed it, which means the red earth, the first people, all five races in one. And then I realized as well the connection of Tara. Backwards, Ta-ra becomes Ra-Ta, the priest from an Egyptian past-life of Edgar Cayce who assisted in building the pyramids. Then I took it a step further to remember that the names of the Egyptian creator god Ptah and of course the sun god Ra combined become Ptah-Ra. Was the name of Tara Herself, derived somehow from these Egyptian origins?

The making of the sun king or Ra was derived from the power of Tea, the Goddess, in Her union with him. Of course, within Egyptian culture, it was Isis who held the sacred name of Ra, so it was she who held the secret power to create over all of the gods and goddesses of Egypt. And what of the sacred boy from my own visions, a boy of dark skin and dark hair?

In one vision, he was walking upon a sacred mound, as if it were Brigid’s Mound in Glastonbury, but it was definitely Celtic. Was he the lost prince in the Mound of Hostages whom Evans identifies as Egyptian, capturing my attention many years ago to lead me upon this journey, of connecting the cultures of two very variant lands?

Is he indeed the soul of my son yet to be born, a connection tied together in totality at last for myself in my own personal journey as well? The questions about Tara and her secrets continue, as my own quest to uncover more answers begins.

The Future of Humanity

The Future of Humanity is a dialogue between J. Krishnamurti and David Bohm which took place in Brockwood Park, England in 1983. Starting with the questions - Are psychologists really concerned with the future of man? Are they concerned with the human being conforming to the present society, or going beyond that? - the conversation embarks on the incredible journey of the unconditioned mind and asks if the consciousness of mankind can be changed through time.

KRISHNAMURTI: We are saying, let’s be clear, that the evolution of consciousness is a fallacy… There is no psychological evolution, or the evolution of the psyche.

DAVID BOHM: Yes, and since the future of mankind depends on the psyche, it seems then that the future of mankind is not going to be determined through actions in time.

KRISHNAMURTI: Mind is universal, not polluted by thought. You only have your brain, which is conditioned. You can’t say “It’s my mind” … What lies beyond thought when thought is silent is attention. Attention is without activity of thought …Undirected attention of the mind contacts the brain as long as the brain is silent. Attention can only “be” when self is “not.”

DAVID BOHM: But those cells that are conditioned, whatever they may be, evidently dominate consciousness now, right?

KRISHNAMURTI: Yes. Can those cells be changed? We are saying that they can through insight - insight being “out of time.”

DAVID BOHM: This insight will be through the action of the mind, intelligence, and attention.

KRISHNAMURTI: Where there is that insight, intelligence wipes away suffering.

DAVID BOHM: … there is contact from mind to matter which removes the whole physical chemical structure which keeps us going on with suffering.

KRISHNAMURTI: That’s right. In that ending, there is a mutation in the brain cells.

DAVID BOHM: That mutation just wipes out the whole structure that makes you suffer…

KRISHNAMURTI: Matter is limited, thought is limited.

DAVID BOHM: But we are saying that “the pure energy of mind is able to reach into the limited energy of man.”

KRISHNAMURTI: Yes, that’s right and change the limitation.

Nature's most powerful Antiviral Medicine

Soil Based Organisms -- The "missing link" of the 21st Century diet?
by Simon Galloway BSc (Hons) Pharmacology, MBAMT

It's common knowledge that we share our bodies with friendly bacteria that perform a host of beneficial functions to ward off disease. Now, scientists are discovering that once upon a time our soil and food chain was teeming with medicinal superbugs called Soil Based Organisms (SBOs) which prevented many of today's chronic diseases.

Astonishing cures got us hooked
SBOs are the closest thing we have encountered to a one-of-a-kind panacea for some of the 21st century's most common chronic diseases. Scientific studies are showing that their staggering full-spectrum action combats many of the major drug targets like diabetes, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, high cholesterol, Parkinson's disease, Lou Gehrig's disease, epilepsy, chronic fatigue syndrome, oesteoporosis, bladder and kidney disease, anaemia, dysbiosis, celiac disease, IBS, Crohns disease, yeast and candida infections, allergies, prostate disease, PMS, bacterial and viral infections like herpes, hepatitis B and C, nervous disorders, burns, ulcers and wound healing and even the common cold! What's more, they are not only safer and cheaper than many of the indicated commercial drug treatments but are unrivalled by them in effectiveness! To find out why we must get a brief education in gut ecology…

When things go wrong: 21st Century war on gut health
In every healthy person the gut terrain is policed by about three and a half pounds of benefical symbiotic bacteria known as the gut flora which act to produce essential vitamins, hormones and antibiotics to protect against infection, help the digestive system break down carbohydrates, fats and proteins, digest putrefaction and most importantly compete with undesirable microorganisms like yeasts, fungi, bacteria and parasites to keep their numbers under control.

These beneficial bugs are normally continously re-established by the ingestion of soured milk products like cultured yoghurt, whey and cottage cheese. But with the advent of the 21st century western diet, lifestyle, sanitation and even medicine these essential bugs now live a precarious existence. A diet high in refined sugar and alcohol and low in natural soured milk products for instance is poisonous to the gut flora causing them to die off in large numbers. Chemicals too like flouridated and chlorinated water can be devastating to the resident flora. But by far the most common cause of wholesale death of beneficial bacteria is prescription drugs. Non-steriodal anti-inflammatory drugs can seriously derail gut ecology and worse still antibiotics because they are non-specific against both good and bad microorganisms can render the entire gut sterile.

The health consequences can be devastating and can mean that outnumbered pathogenic disease-causing bugs can proliferate causing havoc in gut health like dysbiosis, leaky gut and malabsorption. Medical experts are now being forced to admit that an injured flora may be the common weakness that allows many chronic diseases to gain a foothold. The early warning signs are varied but include chronic fatigue, allergies and sensitivities, vitamin deficiencies and anaemia, high cholesterol, hormonal imbalances, crippling PMS and menstrual complaints, rapid onset osteoporosis, and most importantly poor resistance to infection leading to more serious illness.

Bringing in foreign allies
It is common knowledge that supplementing an injured flora with probiotics and natural soured milk products can help to rebuild resistance to disease. However, what is often missed is that once the gut flora has become seriously outnumbered by pathogenic microorganisms no amount of repopulation with probiotics is going to help matters. Aggressive measures are required to bring their numbers back into the normal range and fight dysbiosis.

This is where Soil Based Organisms come in.

Soil Based Organisms Eat Candida for breakfast!
SBOs are benefical bacteria that live in soil and until the end of the 19th century when food processing replaced hand-to-mouth ingestion of raw fruit and veg, they formed a regular part of our diet. The action of SBOs in the human body is manifold including producing antibiotics and vitamins, ensuring complete digestion, stimulating gut wall immunity and most importantly here devouring the same pathogenic yeasts, molds, fungi and bacteria that become uninhibited in dysbiosis like the debilitating candida albicans. This is welcome news for all those battling with this temperamental pest which can wreck lives by going undetected for years and causing chronic symptoms of profound fatigue, bizzare "dry drunkeness", memory loss, brainfog, constipation, painful bloating and vitamin deficiencies which do not always respond to fungicidal medicines.

Goodbye Leaky Gut
What's more, with dybsiosis-related constipation so common these days and evacuation so infrequent, our bowels can become toxic waste dumps for rotting fecal matter. This waste is a fertile breeding ground for pathogenic pests and builds layer upon layer until the intestinal wall can barely absorb anything useful and we start to choke on our own toxins and become vitamin deficient. It doesn't end there because a starved intestinal wall can become porous like swiss cheese allowing undigested waste and food to leak into the blood leading to fierce immune reactions, allergy and even mental illness. The good news is that once colonized our friendly SBOs work industriously to "de-scale" the colon and intestines of clinging putrefaction that hampers nutrient absorption and cell surface immunity improving small intestinal absorption up to 60% and allowing the gut wall to repair itself.

What the West left behind
SBOs have until recently always behaved as a dietry safeguard to buffer against insults to the natural gut flora and help it to recover when thrown offkilter. However, since the turn of the last century their presence in the food chain has seriously dwindled. Both modern agricultural methods with their over-reliance on powerful pesticides, fungicides and germicidal chemicals and heat-based food processing are toxic to SBOs and this has created a serious vacuum of these medicinal bugs in the food chain.

For this reason the accompanying changes in diet, lifestyle, sanitation and drug-based medicine have had runaway effects on human health because there has been no bridle to minimize their impact on gut health. The result in the west has been epidemic increases in bowel and digestive system problems like candidiasis, gastritis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Crohns and colitis which would have normally been mitigated by the presence of SBOs in the food chain. For this reason scientists are being forced to admit that we have lost touch with what has made food medicinal for thousands of years. But that's not all. New evidence is suggesting that by starving the body of SBOs we might have inadvertingly tossed aside nature's most powerful gift in antiviral medicine...

The Amazing Double Life of Soil Based Organisms
The real story starts when scientists began to realize that SBOs lead an amazing double-life and possess an astonishing healing action against chronic diseases to rival some of the strongest drugs on the market. Now the results are in after 12 years of research there can be no ignoring the dramatic remissions of chronic disease we have to report like spontaneous recoveries

from 13 year histories of chronic epilepsy, 20 year arthritis disabilities, spontaneous regression of breast disease and other malignant tumours and 3 day recoveries from lifelong Parkinson's disease, prostate enlargement, glaucoma and hypercholesterolemia! These form just a fraction of the cases now being replicated by clinical trials in Spain and South America to investigate the SBO phenomenon.

What is understood so far is that apart from the remarkable action SBOs exert on gut ecology these clever organisms actuaIly enter into a unique partership with the human immune system which biologists term symbiosis. Put simply once they drop anchor on the gut wall, SBOs secrete specialized antigen proteins which entice the human immune system to multiply its normal output of antibodies and this renders the body "on standby" for anything. The knock-on effects are shocking.

Nature's most powerful Antiviral Medicine
This simple immune "handshake" between bacteria and body firstly produces an unprecendented rise in the heavyweight immunity molecule alpha-inteferon. Alpha-inteferon exists in a mind boggling combination of 20 forms and scientists have long sought to reproduce this elusive polypeptide for use as a drug to treat life-threatening disorders of the immune system like AIDS, HIV, Hepatitis and Multiples Sclerosis. Unfortunately their attempts to date have failed and the single man made form of alpha-inteferon in commercial use has low biological potency, low safety and is prohibitively costly. Amazingly this synthetic drug is just no match for SBOs which boost an astonishing 16 of the 20 sub-species of the interferon series! The resulting explosion in Killer T-cell recruitment is a force to be reckoned with crippling even serious infections and seasonal troublemakers like the flu. Its potency, safety and inexpensiveness means SBOs may one day become the prefered antiviral treatment for serious
immune disease.

That's not all, once established in the gut this "immune hand-shake" strongly stimulates E-lymphocyte cell expression which react by synthesizing copius reserves of antibodies as a frontline defense against infection. With the antibody deck "stacked" in this way if an actual infection takes hold or a pathogen invades the body these dormant reserves instantly become "imprinted" with precise infonnation required to attack the offending invader and the infection is quickly overcome without a shot being fired. This extra contingent of antibodies will remain on standby for as long as SBOs are taken regularly -- greatly relieving the intensity and duration of illness when it strikes. In this way we can triple or quadruple our passive immune resistance...

Whats more SBOs also produce a potent antioxidant enzyme called Super Oxide Dismutase that acts as a super-scavenger to ferret out noxious end-products of metabolism called free-radicals. Free radicals increase in disease states and attack any molecule in the body creating organ or tissue damage and inflammation. Studies at John Hopkins University have shown that SBOs prevent such damage occuring to the heart after infarcts and in many disease states of the kidneys, pancreas and skin.

Finally SBOs are a superfood and easily bypasses serious iron deficiency by supplying its transporter molecule lactoferrin, ensuring that 95% of dietry iron enters the body and is personally delivered to the receptors where it is required. Similarly they supply isotonic nucleic acids like DNA and RNA which the body can readily assimilate for rapid healing of skin bums, ulcers, surgical incisions and infected wounds. And if all that wasn't enough SBOs are an abundant dietary source of over 71 micronutrients including chlorophyll, phytocyanin, fatty acids, amino acids, nucleic acids, vitamins, minerals and key enzymes for the malnourished gut!

Suppressed Science - Mycotoxins & Disease

"Human beings, the potentially highest form of life expression on this planet have built the vast pharmaceutical industry for the central purpose of poisoning the lowest form of life on the planet--germs!" - Dr. Richard Murray

The presence of germs does not constitute the presence of a disease. Bacteria are scavengers of nature...they reduce dead tissue to its smallest element. Germs or bacteria have no influence, whatsoever, on live cells. Germs or microbes flourish as scavengers at the site of disease. They are just living on the unprocessed metabolic waste and diseased, malnourished, nonresistant tissue in the first place. -- laleva.org

Poor quality, improperly grown, stored and prepared grains together with mycotoxins represent a significant and growing problem in our food supply. Evidence has been gathering that grains (and the mycotoxins increasingly contained in them) can significantly and adversely impact our health.

Mycotoxins are toxins produced by fungi which can grow in yeasts or molds. Fungi are single-cell forms of life that have been on earth for billions of years. They are more highly developed than bacteria and viruses and - like Bechamp's mycrozyma - fungi can be found throughout our environment. Also like Bechamp's mycrozyma, fungi can change form. This allows them to remain dormant or in a state of no growth for thousands of years and then shift to a rapid growth state when the conditions are favorable. Again like Bechamp's microzyma, fungi produce and secrete a poisonous toxin called a mycotoxin. Finally, and once again like Bechamp's mycrozyma, fungi are opportunistic: that is they are contained in a healthy biological terrain but flourish in, and sometimes overwhelm, a compromised biological terrain.

Mycotoxins (along with prions now thought to be responsible for Mad Cow Disease) may in fact be just a new name for Bechamp's mycrozyma which have been alterred by "improper fermentation." The diseases linked to these mycotoxins parallel those which are linked to insulin/blood sugar imbalance as well as "inflammatory response." They include arthritis, alzheimer's, heart disease, cancer, allergies, candida or yeast overgrowth, inflammatory bowel syndrome, most if not all autoimmune diseases, and more. They also have the ability, like heavy metals, to unravel or damage DNA. Interestingly, certain drugs, most especially antibiotics, are themselves fungal toxins while other drugs act as anti-fungals. This in no way makes drugs an ideal option since all drugs work by interferring with or over-riding body systems - which is another way of saying drugs do nothing to improve the biological terrain. -- Grains-Mycotoxins

PH - Power of Hydrogen
The pH of your blood, tissues and bodily fluids affects the state of your cellular health and inner cleanliness or filth. When your pH levels are in proper balance, you will experience a high level of health and well-being. You will be able to resist states of "dis-ease" and the onset of chronic symptomatologies. Every metabolic and system function - including all regulatory mechanisms such as digestion, respiration, hormone release, neurotransmitter release and immunity - depends entirely on delicately-balanced pH. This is very similar to our built-in thermostat that battles to maintain a 98.6 degree system temperature.

pH stands for power of hydrogen. A pH test measures the concentration of hydrogen ions in your body. The more positively-charged hydrogen ions present, the more acids present. The less hydrogen ions present, the less acidity. The pH scale ranges between one and fourteen. Seven is considered neutral. Anything below seven is considered acidic. Anything above seven is considered alkaline. Like a thermometer that measures body temperature, the pH scale shows increases and decreases in the acid/alkaline content of your body's fluids (blood, saliva, urine, lymph, etc.).

A healthy body should operate slightly alkaline. Deviations above or below a 7.30 - 7.40 pH range in the blood can signal potentially serious and dangerous symptoms or states of "dis-ease" which warns us of a deeper rooted disease process. When your cell and tissue pH levels deviate from a healthy range (7.0 - 7.40) into an acidic state (below 7.0 pH), the acid wastes that your body is normally able to discard when it's healthy through the elimination routes start to back up like a clogged sewage system. When too many acids overwhelm the body from a poor diet or over-exposure to environmental toxins, the body's built-in defense mechanism will attempt to neutralize excess acid wastes. If the body's cell, tissue and blood pH becomes too acidic, the body will gear up to balance pH.

There are nine different internal buffering systems to neutralize acids and balance pH. If these nine neutralizing mechanisms finally go bankrupt and can no longer discard the acids to balance pH, the excess acids will severely compromise cellular integrity and cellular function. They do this by shutting off oxygen and nutrient uptake, and disrupting cellular frequency for communication. This leads to a complete metabolic and system breakdown where serious health problems will then manifest. drcelltox.com

Artic Winds Will Change The World

A new wind circulation pattern is blowing more warm air towards the North Pole than in the 20th Century, scientists found. Shrubs are now growing in tundra areas while caribou herds are dwindling in Canada and parts of Alaska.

NOAA - Artic Report Card 2007
The first update of a report tracking the state of the Arctic indicates that some changes in that region are larger and occurring faster than those previously predicted by climate models, while other indicators show some stabilizing. The “Report Card” was issued today by an international team of scientists, including a NOAA lead author. “The Arctic is an extraordinarily interconnected region, so what happens in the Arctic doesn’t stay in the Arctic,” said Richard Spinrad, NOAA assistant administrator for oceanic and atmospheric research. “There will be significant environmental effects throughout the globe resulting from changes in the Arctic. This annual update provides key information to decision makers and the scientific community on changes that are taking place in the Arctic now.”

An international team of research scientists created a peer-reviewed website, Arctic Report Card, which tracks multiple changes in the Arctic environment. Relative to amounts of Arctic sea ice in the 1980s, the region lost almost 40 percent of the summertime sea ice in the central Arctic in 2007. While the continued loss of summertime sea ice is the most dramatic example, changes are also seen in the atmosphere, on land, in the ocean, and in location and abundance of Arctic species.

“The purpose of the Report Card is to provide a concise, scientifically credible and accessible source of information on recent changes in the Arctic,” says Jacqueline Richter-Menge, the chief editor of the project, from the US Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory.

A lead author, James Overland, a scientist at NOAA’s Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory in Seattle, Wash., has identified a wind circulation pattern blowing more warm air towards the North Pole, compared to the circulation patterns in the 20th century. The fate of the Greenland ice sheet represents large uncertainty. “Recent ice loss is about the same as in the early 20th century, but one cannot exclude a potentially faster response, as mechanisms remain incompletely understood,” wrote the team headed by Edward Hanna of the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom.
Not all indicators show extreme events, and some signals are mixed. For instance, North Pole ocean temperatures are returning to 1990s values, but currents are relatively warm around the edges of the Arctic Ocean.

Permafrost temperatures are stabilizing in both North America and Eurasia, but permafrost melt remains a serious problem. Shrubs are moving northward into tundra areas, but causes for treeline movements are difficult to assess because forest management practices are as influential as climate change. Changes in Arctic animal populations show mixed tendencies over decades. Many caribou and reindeer herds have declined (some up to 80 percent relative to their peaks), while Arctic goose populations have generally expanded.

“The Report Card brings together cutting edge information on changes in Arctic systems,” says Mike Gill, Circumpolar Biodiversity Monitoring Program Secretariat in Canada, and a report card co-editor. “The Report Card reinforces that natural systems in the Arctic continue to undergo significant change, with climate change likely playing an increasing role - emphasizing the need for ongoing and enhanced monitoring.”

Oil & Gas Uncover Colonial Dinosaurs

Environmental groups yesterday condemned British plans to claim sovereignty over a vast tract of the seabed off the coast of Antarctica, with Greenpeace and WWF expressing dismay that the Foreign Office was contemplating possible oil, gas and mineral exploration in the region.

Plan to exploit region seen as huge ecological risk

The Guardian yesterday revealed that the Foreign Office was preparing to submit a rights claim to the UN commission on the limits of the continental shelf (CLCS) for 1m sq km (386,000 sq miles) of seabed off the coast of the British Antarctic Territory.

Any claim, it is alleged, could threaten the stability of the 1959 Antarctic Treaty, which froze territorial disputes on the world's least explored continent. Drilling for oil or gas would disrupt the fragile marine ecology of the Southern Ocean, environmentalists warn.

Simon Walmsley, head of WWF-UK's marine programme, insisted: "There should be no oil or gas exploitation in Antarctica. It's such a fragile habitat. Some of the sea creatures there are killed by a rise in temperature of merely 1.1C. It would be a body blow for the whole region. Guardian Unlimited

A Convenient Lie?

"If the majority of scientific data points to the fact that global warming is caused by the Sun, then how will a tax on carbon emissions help to stop it?"

Global warming caused by man-made activity? A Convenient Lie!
- Andrew G. Marshall

A documentary aired on the UK’s Channel 4, entitled “The Great Global Warming Swindle”, which challenged the prevailing political understanding that global warming is caused by man-made activity. The movie argues that it is in fact the sun that is responsible for the current changes in the Earth’s temperature and the film is riddled with the testimony of many scientists and climate experts, furthering a growing dissent to the man-made theory. After all, that’s all it is, a theory. As soon as people start to state that “the debate is over”, beware, because the fundamental basis of all sciences is that debate is never over, that questions must be asked and answered and issues raised in order for the science to be accurate. So what exactly are the arguments behind the Sun being the main cause of global warming?

First off, it is very important to address the fact that Earth is not the only planet to be experiencing climate change in our solar system currently. In fact, many astronomers have announced that Pluto has been experiencing global warming, and suggested that it is a seasonal event, just like how Earth’s seasons change as the various hemispheres alter their inclination to the Sun. We must remember that it is the Sun that determines our seasons, and thusly has a greater impact upon the climate than we could ever even try to achieve.

In May of 2006, a report came forward revealing that a massive hurricane-like storm that occurred on Jupiter may be caused by climate change occurring on the planet, which is expected to raise its temperatures by 10 degrees. National Geographic News reported that a simultaneous rising in temperature on both Mars and Earth suggest that climate change is indeed a natural phenomenon as opposed to being man-made. The report further explains how NASA has reported that Mars’ carbon dioxide ice caps have been melting for a few years now. Sound familiar?

An astronomical observatory in Russia declared that, “the Mars data is evidence that the current global warming on Earth is being caused by changes in the sun”. They further point out that both Mars and Earth have, throughout their histories, experienced periodic ice ages as climate changes in a continuous fashion. NASA has also been observing massive storms on Saturn, which indicate a climate change occurring on that planet as well. NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope has also been recording massive climate changes on Neptune’s largest moon, Triton. Triton, whose surface was once made up of frozen nitrogen, is now turning into gas.

The Associated Press has reported that satellites that measure the temperature of sunlight have been recording an increase in the sun’s temperature, meaning that the sun itself is warming up. Even the London Telegraph reported in 2004 that global warming was due to the sun being hotter than it has ever been in the past 1,000 years. They cited this information from research conducted by German and Swiss scientists who claim that it is increasing radiation from the sun that is resulting in our current climate change.

Claude Allegre, a leading French scientist, who was among the first scientists to try to warn people of the dangers of global warming 20 years ago, now believes that “increasing evidence indicates that most of the warming comes of natural phenomena”. Allegre said, “There is no basis for saying, as most do, that the "science is settled." He is convinced that global warming is a natural change and sees the threat of the ‘great dangers’ that it supposedly poses as being bloated and highly exaggerated. Also recently, the President of the Czech Republic, Vaclav Klaus said, when discussing the recent ruling by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), that global warming is man-made, “Global warming is a false myth and every serious person and scientist says so. It is not fair to refer to the U.N. panel. IPCC is not a scientific institution: it's a political body, a sort of non-government organization of green flavor. It's neither a forum of neutral scientists nor a balanced group of scientists. These people are politicized scientists who arrive there with a one-sided opinion and a one-sided assignment.” And if you are about to ask why no politicians here seem to be saying this, Klaus offered up an answer, “Other top-level politicians do not express their global warming doubts because a whip of political correctness strangles their voice”.

Nigel Calder, the former editor of New Scientist, wrote an article in the UK Sunday Times, in which he stated, “When politicians and journalists declare that the science of global warming is settled, they show a regrettable ignorance about how science works.” He further stated that, “Twenty years ago, climate research became politicised in favour of one particular hypothesis”. And in reference to how the media is representing those who dissent from the man-made theory he stated, “they often imagine that anyone who doubts the hypothesis of man-made global warming must be in the pay of the oil companies”, which is exactly what I believed up until I did my research. He also wrote, “Enthusiasm for the global-warming scare also ensures that heatwaves make headlines, while contrary symptoms, such as this winter’s billion-dollar loss of Californian crops to unusual frost, are relegated to the business pages”.

For those who saw Al Gore’s “documentary”, it was very convincing of its hypothesis that global warming is a man-made phenomenon that has the potential to kill us all and end humanity. After all, the film was filled with graphs and charts, so it must be true. Let’s just get something straight here, Al Gore is not a climatologist, meteorologist, astronomer, or scientist of any kind; he is a politician. And as we all know, politicians always tell the truth. However, as Al Gore’s popularity grows and with his recent winning of an Academy Award for his movie, the issue has spiraled into massive push for quick action and stifled debate, forcing many scientists to speak out and challenge the political status quo.

A group of scientists recently stated that the research behind Al Gore’s film and in fact, the concept of greenhouse gases causing global warming, is "a sham". They claim that in fact, there is very little evidence to prove that theory, and that the evidence actually points to an increase in solar activity being the cause of climate change. In Gore’s movie, he presented evidence that was found in the research done on ice core samples from Antarctica, which he claimed is proof for the theory of CO2 being the cause of rising temperatures. However, this group of scientists state that “warmer periods of the Earth's history came around 800 years before rises in carbon dioxide levels”, meaning that a rise in Carbon Dioxide follows a rise in temperature, rather than increasing temperature following rising CO2 emissions. And not only that, but it follows behind the rise in temperature by about 800 years. The group also mentions that, “after the Second World War, there was a huge surge in carbon dioxide emissions, yet global temperatures fell for four decades after 1940.” They also claim that the report given by the UN, which said it was backed by over 2,000 of the worlds leading scientists, “was a ‘sham’ given that this list included the names of scientists who disagreed with its findings.” Thepeoplesvoice.org

Progress Can Kill

Speaking about the desperate health situation of his people, Davi argues that the only way to save the rainforest is to save the Indians, by recognising their land rights ‘Progress can kill’ details for the first time how separation from their lands leads to the physical and mental breakdown of tribal peoples:

‘You napëpë (whites) talk about what you call ‘development’ and tell us to become the same as you. But we know that this brings only disease and death. Now you want to buy pieces of rainforest, or to plant biofuels. These are useless.

‘The forest cannot be bought; it is our life and we have always protected it. Without the forest, there is only sickness, and without us, it is dead land. The time has come for you to start listening to us. Give us back our lands and our health before it’s too late for us and too late for you.’
Survival International

Davi Kopenawa Yanomami, shaman speaks of the coming of the white people, and the dream of origins:

Discovering the white people
A long time ago, my grandparents, who lived on the headwaters of the Toototobi River, sometimes visited other Yanomami established in the lowlands along the Aracá River. It was there that they met white people for the first time. During those visits our old ones got their first machetes. They told me that many times, when I was a child.

But it was a lot later, when we lived at Marakana, closer to the mouth of the Toototobi River, that the white people first visited our home. At the time our old ones were still all alive and we were many, I remember. I was a boy, but was beginning to become conscious of things. It was there that I started to grow up and discovered the white people. I had never seen them, I knew nothing about them. When I saw them I cried, I was so afraid.

The adults had already met them a few times, but I hadn’t! I thought they were cannibal spirits that were going to devour us. I thought that they were very ugly, whitish and hairy. They were so different they terrified me. Besides, I couldn’t understand a single one of their entangled words. It sounded like they spoke a ghost’s language.

The old ones used to say that they stole children, that they had already captured some and taken them when they went up the Mapulaú River, in the past. That’s also why I was so scared: I was sure that they were going to take me away too. My grandparents had already told that story many times.

When those strangers would come into our house my mother would hide me under a large basket in the back of our house. Then she’d say, ‘Don’t be afraid! Don’t say a word!’, and I stayed there, trembling under my basket, saying nothing. I remember it, but I must have been very small at the time or I wouldn’t have fit under that basket! My mother would hide me because she too was afraid that the white people would take me with them, like they had stolen those children the first time.

Later I really began to grow up and to think straight, but I continued to ask myself, ‘What are the white people doing here? Why do they open paths in our forest?’ The older ones would answer, ‘No doubt they come to visit our land in order to live here with us later!’ They understood nothing of the white people’s language; that’s why they let them enter their lands in such a friendly way. Had they understood their words, I think they would have expelled them.

Those white people fooled them with their presents. They gave them axes, machetes, knives, clothes. In order to make their distrust sleep they would say, ‘We, the white people, will never leave you deprived of things, we will give you many of our products and you will become our friends!’ But, shortly thereafter, almost all of our relatives died in an epidemic, then in another one. Later, a lot of other Yanomami again died when the highway entered the forest and many more when the garimpeiros (gold prospectors) arrived with their malaria. But this time I had already become an adult and I thought straight; I really knew what the white people wanted when they entered our land.

In the land of the white people
When I saw Europe, the white people’s land, I was distressed. Some cities are beautiful, but the noise never stops. They run around in them with cars, on the streets and even with trains underground. There’s a lot of noise and people all over. One’s mind becomes dark and entangled, one can no longer think straight. That’s why the thoughts of the white people are full of dizziness and they don’t understand our words. All they say is, ‘We are very happy to roll and fly! Let’s continue! Let’s look for oil, gold, iron!’ The thought of those white is obstructed, that’s why they mistreat the land, stripping it everywhere, and they dig it even under their houses. They don’t think that one day it will end up collapsing.

We, we want the forest to be kept as it is, always. We want to live in it with good health, and we want the xapïripë [shamanic] spirits, the game and the fish to continue to live in it. We plant only the plants that feed us, we want no factories, no holes in the ground, nor dirty rivers. We want the forest to remain quiet, the sky to remain clear, the evening darkness to really fall and for the stars to be seen.

The white people’s lands are polluted, they are covered by a smoke- epidemic that has extended very high to the sky’s bosom. This smoke is coming towards us but has not reached us yet, because the celestial spirit Hutukarari still repels it incessantly. Above our forest the sky is still clear, because the white people haven’t been coming close to us for that long. But later, when I’m dead, maybe this smoke will grow big to the point of extending darkness over the earth and turning off the sun. The white people never think of these things that the shamans know, that’s why they are not afraid. Their thought is filled with forgetfulness.

Dreams of the origins
The xapiripë [shamanic] spirits have danced for the shamans since the earliest time and continue to do so now. They look like human beings but are as minuscule as particles of shining dust. In order to see them one has to inhale the powder of the yãkõanahi tree many, many times.

The xapiripë dance together on great mirrors that come down from the sky. They are never grey like the humans. They are always magnificent: their bodies are painted with urucum [annatto paint] and lined with black drawings, their heads are covered with white feathers of king vulture, their beaded arm straps are full of parrot, cujubim [a type of bird] and red macaw feathers, their waists are wrapped with toucan tails.

Thousands of them come to dance together, waving leaves of young palms, emitting cries of joy and singing ceaselessly. Their path looks like spider’s thread sparkling like moonlight and their feather ornaments move slowly at the pace of their steps. It’s a joy to see how beautiful they are!

The spirits are so numerous because they are the images of the forest animals. Everything in the forest has an utupë image: those who walk on the ground, those who climb in the trees, those who have wings, those who live in the water. It is those images that the shamans call and make come down to become xapiripë spirits.

Those images are the true centre, the true interior of the forest beings. Common people cannot see them, only the shamans. But they are not images of the animals we know today. They are the images of these animals’ fathers, they are our ancestors’ images. In the First Time, when the forest was still young, our ancestors were humans with the names of animals and ended up becoming prey. It is them whom we kill with arrows and eat today. But their images have not disappeared and it is they who dance for us as xapiripë spirits.

White people draw their words because their thoughts are filled with forgetfulness. We have kept the words of our ancestors within us for a long time and we continue to pass them on to our children. The children who know nothing about the spirits hear the chants of the shamans and then want to see the spirits in their turn. This is how, even though they are very old, the words of the xapiripë always become new again. It is they who increase our thoughts. It is they who make us see and know far away things, the things of the old ones. It is our study, which teaches us how to dream. Survival-international.org

The Spirit Ancestors of Many Nations

As a child, I would hear the songs of the Ancestors, this song of the spirit world is the first thing a child hears when they are born into the physical world. The physical world parents are the honoured guardians of the child of the Spirit Ancestors; but one of the first things humans do is to try to take control of the new spirit. The human family tell the children not to listen to the song of their ancestors. In the westernized world, a child who hears the songs of the Ancestors is a danger to progress. This is because a child who listens to the song of life will not destroy the planet, nor fill their stomach with the blood of their brothers and sisters sharing this sacred journey.

In the physical world, if you do not become a killer you fail. In the spirit world you fail when you become a killer. The spirit world outlives the physical world many times over, and so it is up to you to decide where you want to invest your energy. Those who become killers die, and those who stay balanced live

It is not hard to listen to the harmonious songs of the Ancestors, without their song we would not exist. The original song harmonises our DNA, and those harmonics hold the physical body together.

One of the first problems people face is the dis-resonant song of ego identity, which offers the spirit whatever it wants -- as opposed to what is right. Many people think the songs of the Ancestors would make a nice tune if they could hear it... In reality, listening to the Ancestors leaves no choice, and this is why the vision is not a valid one for most people.

People want to do what they want, and live the illusion that they can do whatever they want regardless of the consequences. To the spirit world this behaviour is madness. As a result the world has a big drug problem, but the biggest drug of all is the ego and all the other little drugs are the way the ego controls the individual mind to get its own way.

A healthy and awake individual would say to the ego: "Wait a minute, you are leading me on a path to destruction, while behind me is a trail of devastation."

The Matrix illusion is that people can do what they want. This creates a somewhat brutal, insensitive approach to living on this earth. If people would hesitate, step back and question their thoughts and movements - they would discover a magical world beyond thought.

You may say: "Wait-a-minute! You need to think to write your posts..."

Actually! No! When I write posts or work on my website, I cease to exist.

We humans are much more than walking thought containers. If you stopped to consider that your thoughts are not you but are some mechanical type intrusion into the peace and depth of an otherwise silent mind, then life would take on another meaning.

Nano-seconds... quantum millimeters... a heartbeat beyond thought... lies a world few people enter, before they die. This other world has depth, intensity, beauty, silence... It is the unknown... The silent mind is not a popular destination for the mass populations, whose minds are under siege, stressed out, violent, unhappy and never at rest.

People on this planet run to places of great beauty to silence their minds, or they attempt other means, they have other addictions. The very attempt to attain peace of mind is the denial of that peace. Peace does not come from outside, it is not far away, you cannot journey to find it and it does not take time to arrive there.

The noisy mind runs through its activities seeking peace from itself, while the fragile human being looks on - a passenger in their own life as it unfolds in front of them at the speed of thought. There really is no method to shift the mind into a state of silence. The silence comes only when thought dies completely. The ending of thought is choiceless awareness. This leads us to our true origins. To read the story of our true origins the mind has to be still, silent and at peace.

A Face In The Web of Life

A woman's tear stained face appears at the mysterious window known as The Web of Life. Her face and her tears are the life and blood of the Burmese people. The rest of the world look on in shock and horror, as the terrible monster of Globalisation rolls over the broken bones of the impoverished people living in this ancient land.

Global corporations and banking institutions, dance hand in hand the dance of death, extracting the earth's resources and in the process killing the human soul one country at a time. People around the world, for now in relative safety, observe the Global monster devouring planet earth, devouring its human populations, its bio-diversity, its rivers, oceans, forests and cultures.

The stench of death progresses, stealth like, around the earth country by country. The Burmese monks today are the Germans, French, Spanish, Greeks and Italians of tomorrow. Trees, forests, bird and animal habitats, the ocean's creatures, fresh water rivers and humans are being devoured at a rate unknown to the earth's inhabitants until now.

All of mankind are part of the web of life. Destroy the people of Burma, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Pakistan, Afghanistan and of China and you destroy the expression of the human soul as well as the unique diversity of the planet we are inhabiting.

James: "I can appreciate that people feel a natural stewardship to earth, and many can now see the consequences of hyper-consumption and how it has diminished the quality of our ecosystem. But the earth is not a delicate or fragile thing. Nor is it separate from us energetically. We are all connected, and it is because of this interconnection, and the super-resilience of earth, that the Event Temples will focus on energetically supporting people first and foremost. - Event Temples

EarthStar Chronicles

Now and then there are humans born who can see wood elves. When humans can see wood elves, they can also see the trees. In each forest on earth there are trees. The humans who can see wood elves realised that within the trees grow teacher trees.

There was a time in earth's history when the orcs were cuting down the trees. The orcs were cutting down the wise teacher trees, but as humans generally could not see wood elves, trees nor teacher trees - it did not seem to matter that the orcs were cutting down the trees in the forests. If you don't see the trees, you wont notice when they are gone...

One day a human who could see the wood elves, noticed that the orcs were cutting down the wise teacher trees. The human went to the wood elves and asked them why the orcs go out of their way to cut down the key teacher trees who hold together the forests? Obviously, at this rate the orcs would soon have no more trees to cut down. They seemed to need the wood of the trees to fire the decline in man... "The old world will burn in the fires of industry. Forests will fall. A new order will rise.." Saruman - Lord of The Rings

The wood elves told the humans that the elves taught the trees and the trees taught the humans. One day, when the humans waken up, they will remember [and they will go seek out the wise trees......] Humans once talked with trees and they will do so again. The trees taught humans to look and to understand the stars. Today the humans look at the stars and do not see the trees. They have forgotten the ancient knowledge. The trees came from the stars.

During storms, the wise trees drop a branch or two for the rune maker. The wood elves told the human that the runes taught man about the structure behind the stars. The trees taught humans to observe the heavens and the branches of the trees taught man about the force that moves behind the stars. Mankind has forgotten this knowledge. When man remembers the wisdom of the runes he can return to the stars. The orcs are not cutting down the trees in the forests, they are cutting down mankind's return to the stars.

One day humans will remember the wisdom of the stars and they will turn to look for the trees who showed them this wisdom. The forests fuel the seeded journey of mankind in ways that man has yet to understand. The wise trees are the navigator trees, and the orcs are cutting apart the shared journey of humankind. When you cut down the forests and trees you cut down the shared journey of mankind.

The - future - humans who see the wood elves are looking for the trees.
The - present - trees are looking for the humans.

Altered Resonance of Viruses & Bacteria

I am thinking that on some basic level humans are a modified form of bacteria. I mean in a 'building-block' sense. How can bacteria and viruses (and molds) effect human physiology? There would have to be a 'relationship' for there to be an effect.

As an artist, because I see things in pictures, the larger picture is made up from little dots. Translated into non-artistic glyphs that means little bits of matter, implying that in some ways humans are merely a more complex walking form of fungus. If our basic elements return to their primordeal state, we are not walking humans any more we are breaking up into our constituent parts. Our origins. Where we came from. Simple, single cell animals, bacteria and forms of fungus. The building blocks of life.

In the future they are healing people with sound. Not the kind of sounds we know today. Frequencies of harmonic resonance heard and applied on a cellular level. These frequencies are not normally heard by the human ear, but are felt on a cellular level. In this respect we are going to pay a high price for the misuse and resulting imbalance of these resonant frequencies in the form of microwave communications and low pulse frequency communications.

Science is beginning to uncover the secret of matter, as outlined by more ancient forms of science, that matter is sound. Bacteria sing, viruses sing, molecules sing. They have a vocal resonant signature. This means that sound frequencies can clear the body of choruses of elements harmful to human health. In theory, frequencies could also transform toxins and heavy metals into a more harmless state. But that is way ahead of where we are now.

Some researchers put 'allergies' at the heart of all illnesses. So far these researchers have not found the Rosetta stone that will allow them to fully understand the interrelating language code. Because these elements are all talking to each other. They are speaking a complex molecular language. On a molecular level, they understand the language - but we don't understand the language. If we did understand the language we would have the key to life.

I am sure there are ways to understand the first steps to the harmonic resonance of the human energy field. Because the physical molecules are talking back and forth with the energy fields. Fungus has an elecrical frquency and an energy field. Bacteria have their own energy fields. It is the same with viruses. All the contactee stories of people being taken aboard UFO's describe the same proceedure: They get disinfected in a beam of light, there is a sound or they drink something bitter that makes them feel sick. It is probably anti-parasite medicine.

One of the reasons that resonance is so important in this coming age is because we are moving into a frequency that requires a certain resonance. A race intelligent enough to create that resonance within the society will be able to operate at those more advanced frequencies. We have fallen so far behind that society is in danger of completely imploding due to the loss of an essential integrated field. Conflict is the most damaged form of social implosion.

In some ways the health problems faced by humankind are signalling man to move back towards the resonant field. If we continue to live outside the harmonic resonant field things will continue to go down. When we cooperate to build our lives and our societies in balance with the harmonic resonant field, we will prosper. Each atom can take any form, and the form is determined by and through conciousness. The Unified Field is one atomic structure manifesting a variety of forms, but it is essentially one atomic structure.

Solar Climate Changes

Is The Sun Driving Climate Change? Carefully observing nature one cannot miss increasing global changes in the earth's climate, but is it a natural occurance? The earth's climate has been fluctuating from extremely warm temperatures, to mild weather, to ice ages for millions of years. Climate change wiped out the dinosaurs and mankind inherited the earth. The deserts of the Middle East were once the lands of milk and honey. Over time the rivers dried into sand, communities were abandoned and large groups of people wandered into today's Europe. Did these people simply wander, or were resources dwindling due to social upheaval as a result of changes in the climate?

During the time of the Medieval Warm Period temperatures were warmer than they are today, as a result of this vinyards were grown as far as the North of England. Following the warm period Europe experienced what historians call the Little Ice Age. What I find interesting about this documentary on Climate Change is the reference to the water vapour which accounts for 95 percent of the atmospheric "Greenhouse gases".

The Oceans are the biggest producers of Carbon Dioxide, and the most interesting factor of this is that there is a time lag of hundreds of years between the chnages in temperature and the amout of Carbon Dioxide going into or out of the sea? Due to the vast size of the Oceans they take hunderds of years to warm up or cool down. The implication of this is that if the CO2 theories were correct, it would still take hundreds of years to correct anything taking place in the Oceans in terms of the absorbtion or realease of CO2. This means that the Oceans change over hundreds of years, and not overnight.

I have a feeling that the sluggishness in the Oceans ability to cope with the pollution is elecro-magnetic. By that I mean that all life processes of renewal, rebuilding, cellular and molecular transformation are driven by magnetism... and if the magnetic field of the earth is growing weaker then this would effect all processes of life on earth - on land as well as in the Oceans. However, if this is the case, then humans would have to cut back on pollution to the environment, because the earth is not going to be cleaning it up for us, during a weakening of the planet's magnetic field. We will be choking in our own waste.

As stewards of this planet, I don't think we should be destroying nature and polluting the rivers, the drinking water of all creatures, the seas. People have to learn to respect the planet they live on. This has nothing to do with climate change. It has to do with living a clean and healthy life and not abusing the resources of the wrold you live on.

The Biofuel Illusion

The statistics are showing that Europe and America do not have the land to grow enough corn to meet their fuel consumption demands, so that explains why they are all investing in palm oil plantations in Malaysia and Indonesia. China is investing heavily in removing the virgin forest in Malaysia and Indonesia for their palm oil plantations, and as a result are making a killing through the timber they are removing.

In a few years from now there is going to be some disaster in which scientists will report that if these countries had not cut down the forests the disaster would not have had such a terrible effect. The mono-plantations will either have been washed away or destroyed, or even better! An alternative is discovered through which the world does not need palm oil... That will happen. Meanwhile, they have totally destroyed their forests and as a result the bio-diversity crashes and the effect it has on the human population in Asia, will be as equally devastating as the current effect human behaviour is having on the Urangutan.

Why is Palm Oil Replacing Rainforests?
Surveys of the region commissioned by WWF found that much of the land is poorly suited for oil palm. Mountainous terrain combined with inappropriate altitude and climate for oil palm means that only 10 percent at most can be considered adequate for cultivation and lends credibility to claims by environmental groups that the entire plan may be a cover for a massive logging scheme to harvest the area’s rich timber resources.

Greenomics, an Indonesian forestry non-governmental organization, has calculated the timber value in the border region at $26 billion. Logging the area set aside for oil-palm plantations would net substantial amounts of revenue for logging firms and considerable tax income for the Indonesian government.

AlterNet July 7, 2006
There's been a lot of talk lately about the promise of biofuels -- liquid fuels like ethanol and biodiesel made from plants -- to reduce our dependence on oil. Even President Bush beat the biofuel drum in his last State of the Union speech.

Fuel from plants? Sounds pretty good. But before you rush out to buy an E-85 pickup, consider:

-- The United States annually consumes more fossil and nuclear energy than all the energy produced in a year by the country's plant life, including forests and that used for food and fiber, according to figures from the U.S. Department of Energy and David Pimentel, a Cornell University researcher.

-- To produce enough corn-based ethanol to meet current U.S. demand for automotive gasoline, we would need to nearly double the amount of land used for harvested crops, plant all of it in corn, year after year, and not eat any of it. Even a greener fuel source like the switchgrass President Bush mentioned, which requires fewer petroleum-based inputs than corn and reduces topsoil losses by growing back each year, could provide only a small fraction of the energy we demand.

-- The corn and soybeans that make ethanol and biodiesel take huge quantities of fossil fuel for farm machinery, pesticides and fertilizer. Much of it comes from foreign sources, including some that may not be dependable, such as Russia and countries in the Middle East.

-- Corn and soybean production as practiced in the Midwest is ecologically unsustainable. Its effects include massive topsoil erosion, pollution of surface and groundwater with pesticides, and fertilizer runoff that travels down the Mississippi River to deplete oxygen and life from a New Jersey-size portion of the Gulf of Mexico.

-- Improving fuel efficiency in cars by just 1 mile per gallon -- a gain possible with proper tire inflation -- would cut fuel consumption equal to the total amount of ethanol federally mandated for production in 2012.

Rather than chase phantom substitutes for fossil fuels, we should focus on what can immediately both slow our contribution to global climate change and reduce our dependence on oil and other fossil fuels: cutting energy use. Alternet.org

Colon Collapse Disorder

I have been wondering if the intestines of the bees are collapsing due to many factors: "This is not colony collapse disorder, the bees have colon collapse disorder." The reasons for this are the unnatural breeding of, and the long distance transportation of the queen bee's, worker bees and whole hives. The conventional bee industry is also a heavy user of anti-biotics. The moment you use anti-biotics on the bees, you destroy their healthy intestinal bacteria, leaving them vulnerable to illness, fungus and mold. The friendly intestinal bacteria are the bee's immune defence, destroy that and you destroy the bees. Destroy the bees and you destroy the colony.

The Apiary industry takes the raw, enzyme rich honey (food) from the bees and in return it feeds them denaturated sugar water. If you feed them brown sugar the bees get sick. Fungus? Mold? Therefore the bees get refined sugars devoid of essential minerals and enzymes. The so-called "Colony Collapse Disorder" is perhaps more accurately described as severe malnutrition.

Bee pollen does not harbour any pathological bacteria. It one of the richest sources of protein available. It can help to correct nutritional imbalances. People suffering from Allergies have been known to reduce the symptoms using bee pollen, which act as an antioxidant. Germs contained in pollen improve the intestinal flora. =0=

I was walking home through town, thinking about the bees Colon Collapse Disorder, when a small bee came buzzing out of nowhere to fly directly in front of me. I don't wear perfume of any kind, but I wear a small stone Hopi bear pendant. The little bee was hovering (flying) backwards in front of the Hopi stone bear pendant as I was walking. At the time I thought it was funny that I am thinking about the bees collapsing colons and this little bee appears in front of me, as though it can see my thoughts. The bee actually lands on the small hopi bear hanging around my neck.

I know that the enzymes and high potency darmflora works, because it is working for me. I am sure it would work for the bees too. That is what human beekeepers are taking away from the bee colonies. They are taking away the living enzymes and the mineral rich food the bees produce for themselves. In place of the living foods the beekeeping industry give the bees ANTI-BIOTICS. Which kill all their beneficial Darmflora. The bee colonies suffer colon collapse, because without healthy intestinal flora the bees (and humans too), have lower immune system and are more susceptible to parasites, fungus, bacteria and viruses.

The bee landing on the Hopi stone bear pendant means they are asking for respect. The bees will work with mankind as long as they get respect. The bee lands on the bear - think about it! Beekeepers are going to have to start feeding the bees colon friendly bacteria, enzymes and minerals to get the colonies back to health. Humans have to put a stop to the Bee Industry, with their bad breeding habits and abuse of the bee colonies and queen bees. If beekeepers will not change the way they work with the bees then consumers can change it for them.

Don't buy Bee Industry honey or products.
Move towards a Bee-Industry-Free standard of doing business, caring for the bees, respecting the bee colonies and feeding the bees the flora needed to bring their colons back to health. Stop drowing the bees in anti-biotics... The problem is not colony collapse, it is beekeeper induced colon collapse disorder. If the consumers knew this they would change their support for this monster industry. Go Organic - save the bee's!

Changes In The Jet Stream

This is an image of how the Gulf Stream kept Europe warm in the past. This summer the North Atlantic Current, which normally flows up around the North of Scotland into the Norwegian sea, dropped down South, to flow South-East. If the Jet Stream would stay where it is, would a large part of Europe freeze this coming winter?

I don't know why Weather Modification pops into my mind? In a sense we are modifying the weather through unclean industrial processes. Of course, drought and desertification of Europe would lead to mass famine. In some ways heavy rain is preferable to no rain at all. There is always a balanced way to do things or one can act in a fragmented, unbalanced way. It is not WHAT you do, but the WAY that you do it. Either we are part of nature, working together - or we are outside nature trying to control those magnificent forces.

"Technology will make available, to the leaders of major nations, techniques for conducting secret warfare, of which only a bare minimum of the security forces need be appraised…Technology of weather modification could be employed to produce prolonged periods of drought or storm." - Zbigniew Brzezinski, Between Two Ages.

I feel that we will have to cooperate to protect the earth from this kind of abuse. The weather is a phenomenon that is open to all people and all nations. The weather is not a weapon... Although Zecharia Sitchin suggested in his translations of the Sumerian tablets that the weather was used/manipulated 'by the gods' to control human populations. To use the weather as a weapon of mass destruction goes against the core values of what the weather actually is. I don't really see that humans can get away with this. It will obviously backfire.

There would have to be an International agreement that any attempt to use the weather against other nations is a crime against all humanity.

The New Little Ice Age

Fire and Ice: The Day After Tomorrow
Laura Knight-Jadczyk

Analysis of the sun's activity in the last two millennia indicates that, contrary to the IPCC's speculation about man-made global warming, that we could be headed into a Maunder minimum type of climate (a Little Ice Age).

The probability is high that the minima around 2030 and 2201 will go along with periods of cold climate comparable to the nadir of the Little Ice Age, and La Ninas will be more frequent and stronger than El Ninos through 2018 (Landscheidt, 2000).

We need not wait until 2030 to see whether the forecast is correct, however. A declining trend in solar activity and global temperature should become manifest long before then. The current 11-year sunspot cycle 23 with its considerably weaker activity seems to be a first indication of the new trend, especially as it was predicted on the basis of solar motion cycles two decades ago. As to temperature, only El Nino periods should interrupt the downward trend, but even El Ninos should become less frequent and strong.

The total magnetic flux leaving the Sun has risen by a factor of 2.3 since 1901 while global temperature on earth increased by about 0.6°C. Energetic flares increased the Sun's ultraviolet radiation by at least 16 percent. There is a clear connection between solar eruptions and a strong rise in temperature.

Lake bottom cores from the Yukatan Peninsula covering more than 2,000 years show a similar correlation between recurrent droughts and the Sun's eruptional activity. These results and many earlier ones (Landscheidt, 1981-2001) document the importance of the Sun's eruptional activity on climate.

Energetic solar eruptions do not accumulate around the sunspot maximum. In most cycles they shun the maximum phase and can even occur close to a sunspot minimum.

I (Landscheidt) have shown for decades that the sun's varying activity is linked to cycles in its irregular oscillation about the centre of mass of the solar system (the solar retrograde cycle). As these cycles are connected with climate phenomena and can be computed for centuries, they offer a means to forecast phases of cool and warm climate.

Researchers need to take the sun seriously as a factor in climate change, including warming, droughts, and cold snaps. "This confirms what I've been saying all along; that our climate is controlled by magnetic activity on the sun." =0=

Body PH - Fungus & Candida Albicans

At last I am beginning to understand the imbalance that leads to and encourages mold growth, yeast and fungus growth inside the body. With the over-abuse of antibiotics, and the fact that it is all in the water supply, add to that the heavy metals, toxic pollutants, legal and illegal drugs floating around in the tap water... it is more a toxic soup we are drinking. Before I was hit with the yeast overgrowth I had noticed a drastic decline in the local water supply to the point that a thin oily film was appearing on the surface of non-filtered heated water. dirty greyish yellow grains were appearing on the bottom of the pan. I thought at the time, okay I am drinking the filtered water. Highly acidic, no doubt! I have not tested it!

Now I have tested the water. Really I did not need to waste a PH test strip indicator for this, but I did it in the interests of scientific research. It looks like the local tapwater has a PH around 5 (highly acidic)... This is what we are all paying for folks... To be served up a floating particle cocktail of illegal drugs, anti-depressants, contraceptives, pain killers, antibiotics and heavy metals.

Cocaine, of course, can pass through the human body and still end up as cocaine in the sewage. This can also be said of antibiotics, pain medications, anti-depressants, anti-inflammatory drugs, cholesterol lowering drugs, blood-pressure lowering drugs, anticonvulsants, cancer-fighting and hormone replacement drugs, and on and on.

Why do you suppose the government only wants to know about the cocaine, though? Why not compare cocaine levels to say, antibiotic levels? The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) needs to measure all the drugs, legal or not. How much used cocaine is safe in American waterways compared to used antidepressants?

Even after passing through water filtration plants, tap water in cities all over the world has been found to contain the entire array of modern pharmaceuticals. To the list of toxic heavy metals, PCBs, engine emissions and fluoride wastes in our municipal water, we must now add the entire pharmacopoeia.
=0=

It took me three months to come to this point where I understand a lot more about the strange allergy reactions I was getting, even from foods I once used to heal myself, whenever I got sick (or out of balance). You can translate "Allergy" into "Acidity". The reason for that is it all turns in a vicious circle, and unless one finds the right solutions the negative spin keeps spinning = acidity.

The way I understand it, this is my own unified field theory, the acidity, the drop in PH, the growth of molds, yeasts and fungus in the body are all part of one imbalance that keeps the dis-resonance in place. It is not only that the molds, fungus, yeasts and toxins like an acidic environment - they ARE the environment. However, the imbalance within the body itself is the trigger that allows the uncontrolled increase of the fungus, mold and yeast overgrowth.

We humans are moving around and around with a bi-polar magnifying glass studying the joints of a finger or a toe, the inflammed joints of the hips, shoulders, knees or vertebra, the breakdown of muscles and tendons, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, glandular and hormonal imbalances. When you have a yeast (Candida) overgrowth it is like you have hit on the motherload of all medicinal symptoms and deficiencies. You can be diagnosed with anything - cos you've got it all. It just depends which Candida-blind specialist you get to know on the diagnostic tree of life, and how they view the science of illness.

The interesting thing is that the medical profession all exhibit the same symptoms, similar to a form of colour blindness... the health care professionals are all Candida-blind, with secondary advanced symptoms of fungus-blind and mold-blind side effects. Even when it is right there in front of them they cannot see Candida, they are completely blind to the fungus, yeast, mold spectrum-of-light-frequency. If you cannot see it then you cannot identify it and treat it. Those who do see Candida are laughed at and ridiculed. If it is invisible, then how can it be there effecting people? I don't see the mold. Do you? No, I don't see it either.

The PH Candida imbalance is a very strange animal. Once that imbalance has taken root in the out of balance body it takes on a life of its own. One of the strangest factors is the way it all reacts inside the body. All the natural foods I would normally use to heal myself would set off a severe allergy reaction. It has taken me three months to understand this, as I observe how my digestive system reacts to different foods.

The food Candida-free programmes advise people not to eat, were the foods that actually helped me regain balance. Of course, I used them intelligently. I was able to use the Kefir to nourish my body while I worked to get the yeast, mold and fungus overgrowth under control. I think I now understand the reason for this. At first, when I realised that I was having a severe allergy reaction to molds and fungus in foods, I attempted to implement a high raw food alkali cleansing diet, only to find that I was having a severe allergy reaction to organic celery, lettuce, cucumbers, fresh wheatgrass, fruit etc. Basically any natural alkali high cleaning food. All I could eat were Avocados and radishes once I had carried out the colon cleanse and Kefir diet for six to ten weeks.

Since I began to use the Dr. Wolz Enzymes and the Darm Flora, I can eat normally again and I am not having these allergy reactions to organic steamed vegetables etc. The way I see it is this... Right at the start I was a walking growth container for molds, parasites, fungus, toxins and yeast. This was due to acidity, but all these contaminants also cause acidity. They live and function in an acid environment and they excrete toxic waste, which also creates an acid environment, polluting and killing the cells of the body.

If I switch to a high alkali cleansing diet I am going to create an environment which kills the overload of mold, fungus, parasites and yeast. The waste toxins from the dying and dead fungus/yeast cells are going to pollute my body. In that case you can be sure I have an allergic reaction when I eat cleansing alkali foods. However, I was not reacting to Yoghurt and Kefir, probably because they are more acidic and are full of beneficial lactobacilli. So, they do not hit the body so hard with a toxic wave of dead yeast cells.

I was also putting elements into the Kefir that would benefit and improve my health. I added Grapefruit seed extract, colliodial silver, silica powder (Kieselerde), Aloe Vera juice and later drops of Zell Oxygen (enzymes). Over the weeks this reduced the pollutants without causing a big reaction, to the point that I can now begin to eat foods that will regain the correct PH balance without encountering allergy reactions. What is an allergy reaction other than over-acidity? I look at the PH of the local water and it is the lowest PH on the test chart I have: PH 5

pH Test: Water with a pH of less than 6.5 or greater than 8.0 can corrode your plumbing and introduce dissolved metals into your drinking water. These metals may pose a serious health hazard. =0=

The problem people face is that when they kill the yeast, molds and fungus they can create a death-of-the-fungus acid inside the body, that is hitting an already exhausted immune system. This is probably why the intestinal bacteria supplements are the best approach to take, as they do not cause such a severe and sudden toxic die-off.

Navigate The Falling Dollar

This video, is one of the most honest overviews of the situation facing all people with regard to market forces and how we interact economically. If we are going to find a real solution to environmental destruction, we are all going to have to understand that spiritual environmental relationships are an important part of the solution. Safely Navigate The Falling Dollar

The intrusion into and the destruction of the world's forests are the result of quick and easy removal of local resources to feed an expanding and parasitic global need for resources. Humans extend their need into the surviving forests, and extract the living and essential resources - creating a 'desert'. We then build new structures on this desert while the towns and cities fall into decay behind us.

All across the world, people with the means want to move out of the pollution and the decay of aging cities and relocate to unexploited areas. The rapid growth of relocating and immigrant populations create the same problems in the unexploited areas, eventually turning those areas into dirty towns and cities...

The solution to these severe environmental problems is to turn around and face them, not to take the 'cheap option' of exploiting new tracts of unexploited land. The cheaper option of extending our needs into remaining forests and natural tracts of land is actually, in the long run, the more costly option. If we would turn around and face the monster we have created, kill it and create environmentally sound living areas - then we would also be creating economically sound relationships with nature.

I like Catherine Austin Fitts' 'Tapeworm Economics' model... "If we want clean water, fresh food, a sound financial system, and healthy communities, we are going to have to finance and govern these resources ourselves. That means withdrawing our support from the institutions that are draining us."

In my own view, local investment in sustainable solutions is vital to facing this environmental monster intelligent people are now fleeing from... That investment is going to have to come from the grassroots solutions of the local people in the local communities. There is a treasure of information on the Solari.com website. "The Tapeworm Economy is a politically managed economy in which a small handful of insiders extract subsidy from many outsiders. The first step to creating the future we deserve and desire is to understand how The Tapeworm really works."

The Economic Matrix

The Living Cells of The Economic Matrix

If you take time to study the information on Solari.com, the most important consideration is, who constitute the atoms of the parasitic economic matrix? There are a lot of 'Conspiracy Theories' about ruling elites manipulating and controlling the lives of 'ordinary human beings'. The conspiracy theories mostly draw the involvement of the ordinary matrix individual as that of a victim. Very few people step back a little further and perceive that the Matrix, or the Ecomomic Matrix is made of all the individual decisions of the 'ordinary' people on the planet.

One of the few people who navigated through the collective fog to point out to people that "We are the world," was Jiddu Krishnamurti. The same applies to environment, economics and society. The physical material atoms of human culture is us, and the structure of those atoms is our behaviour. A more accurate conspiracy theory as to why our world functions in the way it does is that it does so because of us. The economic behaviour of the masses creates the environmental monster that is currently destroying our planet.

A lot of people may say they don't really care about that. This lack of concern is the behaviour of the current matrix in terms of greed, desire for more, patterns of consumption: the economic behaviour that is destroying our world and our environment. The structure of the matrix is all of us together. The way we all interact with our world sends a signal similar to the behaviour of electrons orbiting an atom. Caring individuals would create a totally different signal, a totally different economic behaviour and a totally different relationship with our world. The monster the conspiracy theorists love to describe is us, we are that monster and we maintain the atomic structure of its cancerous growth through how we think and how we live our lives.

How will you change your life now so that the forests can outlive you?

Building The Future With Hemp

All over the Pacific Northwest one can see the effects of the massive deforestation that's been taking place out there during the past 20 years. Whole valleys and mountainsides have been clear-cut - stripped of all plant life - to meet our insatiable demand for fiber, paper and wood. So when High Times learned that Bill Conde, a longtime hemp activist who once ran for governor of Oregon, was researching making an alternative to plywood utilizing hemp, we decided to look into it.

What immediately stands out when going to see Conde is the huge billboard for Conde's Redwood Lumber on the side of Interstate 5, just outside of Harrisburg, Oregon. On one side of the company name is a giant green marijuana leaf and on the other side is an American flag inside a peace sign. In the heart of lumber country, the lumber industry is talking about planting hemp and converting to it as a primary source of fiber. Credit goes largely to Conde, David Seber and Barry Davis, partners in the research and development company called C & S, the company at the forefront in research on hemp use for fiber. HT met with Conde and Seber - Davis was unavailable - to find out what progress they've made in developing a substitute for clear-cutting old-growth forest.

High Times: Bill, why don't you tell me about where you grew up and how you ended up in the lumber business?

Bill Conde: I was born in 1943 and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. Grew up there, graduated from high school, went into the military for four years, then went to work at several different places. I ended up involved in the mobile home industry, where I had to buy redwood. I moved to Oregon about twenty years ago and opened up a redwood lumber yard down in Cottage Grove. One day while I was driving home from a delivery I picked up this hitchhiker - David Seber - and we've been buddies ever since. He's the "S" in C&S.

HT: When and why did you start working to develop hemp fiber for commercial use?

BC: David and I have been working on hemp as a fiber for nearly four years now. The why of it really has to do with twenty-five years of being an old-growth redwood merchant, working with the dead bodies of the oldest living things on the planet. It starts weighing heavy on you if you have any conscience at all.

I just reached point where I asked myself, "What's my life for?" I mean, it surely wasn't just to cut down old trees and make picnic tables and decks out of them. And that's when I realized that as someone in the industry I was in a position to help make the change over, to change the fiber that's being utilized. So David, Barry Davis and I formed C&S to try to do just that. And in the four years we've been working on it we've made great progress.

HT: When I ask hemp activists, they say Bill Conde's the guy who's been active the longest. Any truth to that?

BC: In the state of Oregon that's probably true, but there are a lot of us who have been doing it a long time. Personally, I was really encouraged years ago - back in the sixties - when I saw a guy walk into a courtroom in Southern California with a live plant in his hand and set it on the judge's desk. It had a little sign that said "God grew it." That was my first inkling that something was really wrong with the way the whole system was. Actually, the first time I smoked a joint, I knew there was something wrong with the laws.

HT: Why don't you tell me a little about yourself, David?

David Seber: I was born and grew up on the East Coast. I attended two universities, Fairleigh Dickinson College and the University of Denver, in which I hid in the late sixties until coming in contact with the whole counterculture movement. I've been a hemp enthusiast ever since.

In 1980, after working in the ceramic tile industry and doing international business representing Japan, Korea and Brazil in the US market, I went into the lumber business. I established a redwood lumber yard down in southern Oregon working with William - who taught me everything I know about the lumber business - and I've been associated with it ever since. Eventually we came to the conclusion that it was time - because we had made a good part of our living from wood - that we ought to give something back to the forests and decided to look into establishing hemp as an alternative for wood. When we started looking for a place to begin we came up with the idea of fiberboard.

HT: How did you come up with that?

DS: Well, after making an initial study of "hemp activities" that were going on, we determined that no one was doing anything in terms of construction products whatsoever. Then I came across a book called "Modern Particle Board and Fiberboard Manufacturing," and William and I learned what the industry was about. The author's name is Tom Malone, and I called him. It turns out Tom is the foremost expert in wood construction composites in the world and runs the wood products laboratory at the Washington State University. We went to visit him and presented him with what we thought was the potential for the use of the hemp fiber in replacing wood. And not only did he confirm to us the impending timber shortage and the real need for a substitute, but he felt hemp had great potential.

HT: How did you go about beginning the actual work on the idea?

DS: We immediately made an agreement to enter into a formal contractual relationship between our company, C&S Specialty Builders, and Washington State University, then went about locating and importing some fiber for him. I ended up connecting with the French Hemp Institute of Le Mans, which provided us with fifteen hundred pounds of hemp fiber. At the same time, we started making our initial contacts in the lumber industry to see if we could generate some interest in what we were doing. And although we were initially met mostly with snickers, there were a few people who were interested in the idea.

Now when you talk to production-level people in the lumber industry, you don't ask, "How did the wood turn out?" You ask, "How was the fiber?" If the fiber's good, you know you have good stock coming back. If the fiber is bad, you know you're in trouble with the lumber you're going to receive. Inside the industry everyone anywhere near a production capacity relates to wood not as wood, but as fiber, and we were really on to something with the fiber aspect of what hemp could do.

HT: So you're confident hemp fiber has applications. Where did you go from there?

DS: We started to approach various sources to see if we could, first, import the fiber, and second, whether we could get manufacturers interested in producing products out of such a thing. I am still working on locating sources to import this raw material because even for our trials we need a pretty massive amount of hemp fiber. The lumber industry is built on the concept of giant volumes, continuous production, and very low profit margins relative to the value of the product. When you talk about your average composite factory, you're talking about a place that uses anywhere from a thousand to fifteen hundred dry tons of biomass in the form of wood chips every day, seven days a week. That's how the industry is set up.

So we started to design programs to show the industry how they could switch over, how we could present them with a replacement fiber for wood that they literally could use in their existing facilities. Because the amount of wood fiber that's being used is so massive, we couldn't find any other plant that has any hope of giving us enough raw material to supply the amount of fiber that's used from the forest today.

HT: Didn't C&S come up with a number like ninety-four million acres of timber versus four million acres of hemp?

BC: It's about that. According to the US Forest Service in Washington State, in the Pacific Northwest forests - which are the most productive forests in the world today - the average yield per acre, per year, is four hundred fifty-nine board feet. Now, if you take that four hundred fifty-nine board feet of lumber and you dry it down, take all of the moisture out of it, you have about seven hundred pounds of fiber per acre, per year.

HT: What do you get with hemp?

BC: The very first crop of commercial hemp harvested in England recently - and they don't know diddly yet - produced four tons of fiber per acre.

HT: More than ten times the yield.

BC: And that was in a hundred and twenty days. A good hemp fiber crop will give you up to ten tons per acre in a hundred to a hundred and twenty days. Which is twenty times as much production as with timber. Now consider that every year in the United States we use forty-five million tons of tree fiber for paper alone, which takes the annual growth of ninety million acres of mature forest. With hemp's ten tons to an acre, it would only take four-and-a-half million acres to satisfy our pulp needs. Even in a worst-case scenario - a single crop annually - it would only take nine million acres of hemp to supply the pulp. The complete thing would be nine million acres.

HT: So you're looking at annual yields of hemp that compare favorably to tree yields that don't replenish for twenty-five years.

BC: Twenty, twenty-five years is a bare minimum. There are some specialty trees, cottonwood for instance, from which you can get a crop out in seven or eight years. But even those will not produce as much fiber per acre after ten years of growth as what hemp will do in a hundred to a hundred and twenty days. And not only that, hemp fiber is superior.

HT: Why is that?

BC: For several reasons. Number one, it's superior in its strength to tree fiber. Secondly, it way out-produces tree fiber. Lumber industry people talk about trees' renewability. Yes, trees are renewable. Oil is renewable, too, if you've got a hundred million years to hang around! It's all renewable, but is it sustainable? Anytime you cut down a tree, it takes longer for the tree to grow than the life of the product that you're making from it. So, it's not sustainable from that point of view. Now hemp, on the other hand, takes a hundred to a hundred twenty days to grow, and that's sustainability.

Additionally, there are a number of environmental factors to consider, particularly in the making of paper products from pulp, the most important of which has to do with a substance called lignin. Tree fiber has lignin in it. Lignin is extracted with chlorine, a major river pollutant that converts to dioxins and so forth. Hemp though, is very low in lignin, so low that you can use hydrogen peroxide to break the lignin out. Which doesn't pollute anything.

So hemp fiber is superior in every way conceivable to tree fiber.

HT: What about hemp's effect on the soil? After you grow it for five years is your soil going to be completely depleted?

BC: As a matter of fact, just the opposite. Hemp is utilized to refurbish soil. Hemp leaf is fifty percent nitrogen. You take the leaf and put it back down into the ground to enrich it. The truth of the matter is we could take this damn clay soil out here in Oregon and make it into beautiful soil. Hemp is such a short crop that you don't have to rotate it, and you can grow companion crops with it. Around the world hemp has been grown on the same ground for years and years without depleting the soil.
